Announcing the Justice Reinvestment Equity Program Learning Community

Northwest Health Foundation envisions a just and equitable Oregon and Southwest Washington where people of every color and background have good income, great schools, and affordable healthcare, and where problems are addressed with proven solutions like social supports and healing instead of punishment and retribution.

The Justice Reinvestment Equity Program (JREP) is a new funding program at NWHF that will invest in culturally specific organizations and culturally responsive providers working to reduce prison use, promote healing for survivors of violence, and advance community safety in Oregon. We are eager to learn from organizations led by and representing impacted communities about how JREP can best meet their needs and advance our shared goals. Learn more about JREP.

As a first step, NWHF is convening a Learning Community to inform these efforts. Through this process, groups will:

• Provide input on JREP, including its program/service priorities, geographic focus, grant structure, capacity building program and evaluation. This input will guide the JREP Request for Proposals that will be released in May 2023.

• Assess interest, readiness and appetite to participate in JREP, including capacity-building needs.

• Learn about the evaluation of JREP that the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission will conduct.

• Identify organizational strengths, capacities and readiness to implement and/or expand culturally specific or responsive programming.

• Assess willingness to be vulnerable and share internal systems with the Latino Coalition for Community Leadership (LCCL), the organization contracted by NWHF to provide capacity building support.

We are pleased to share that 24 organizations have been selected to join the Learning Community. Each organization will receive a $10,000 or $11,000 grant for their participation. These groups are:

The JREP Learning Community met for the first time on January 19, and we’re excited to continue getting to know one another at Learning Community convenings and site visits over the next few months.
