Tracking our Giving

We track our giving to groups led by Black, Indigenous and people of color; disability-led groups; and 501(c)(4) organizations. We also track our giving across geographies. This helps hold us accountable to our equity priorities and helps guide our relationship-building and future grantmaking.

Giving to BIPOC-led Groups:  $4,391,950

Racial equity is our foundation’s primary guiding equity framework.

In 2023, 73.8% of our grant dollars went to groups led by Black, Indigenous and people of color.

Giving to Disability-led Groups: $18,900

Disability is one of our foundation’s guiding equity frameworks.

0.3% of our total grant dollars went to disability-led groups in 2023.

In 2024, we are reassessing and recommitting to our Advancing Disability Justice grantmaking program.

Giving Across Our Region

Northwest Health Foundation serves Oregon and five counties in Southwest Washington (Clark, Cowlitz, Pacific, Skamania and Wahkiakum). Geography is one of our foundation’s guiding equity frameworks.

In 2023, we awarded 25 grants to groups based outside the Portland Metro area for a total of $2,967,400, which is approximately 50% of our total grant dollars.

501(c)(4) Grantmaking

By giving to both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations, we use all the tools we have in our toolbox to improve health for everyone in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

In 2023, we made 81 grants totaling $341,057 through Northwest Health Foundation, our 501(c)(4) entity. 

We made 23 grants totaling $5,611,000 through Northwest Health Foundation Fund II, our 501(c)(3) entity.
